Devin Carlson, Certified Veterinary Technician at West Salem Veterinary Clinic

Certified Veterinary Technician

Devin

Devin received her Associate’s degree in Veterinary Technology and Vet Tech Certification in 2012. She worked at another local Veterinary Clinic for several years prior to joining the West Salem Veterinary Clinic in 2016. Devin grew up in West Salem, and from a young age, dreamed of working at the local veterinary clinic.

From cats to dogs, eagles to ospreys, and raccoons to chickens – and everything in between – Devin firmly believes that every living creature deserves to be treated with love and respect. We call her our resident Steve Irwin (the late Crocodile Hunter), as she is not only impassioned about caring for all creatures, but is also passionate about conservation and animal education.

Devin has a special passion for end-of-life care and finds euthanasia to be the most profoundly beautiful part of an animal’s life. She loves being able to support a grieving family in a time that is often times devastating. Saying goodbye to her own boxer, Pepperjack, reinforced the importance of feeling supported in a time of grief. Devin and Pepperjack were surrounded by the support and respect of coworkers and this memory was a pinnacle moment in both her personal and professional life.

Caring for felines is also top of the list for Devin’s favorite parts of her job. She finds that they are often misunderstood and enjoys educating others about their unique needs.

Devin lives with her son, Rowan, in West Salem. She is a backyard chicken enthusiast, and spends her free time reading, writing, doodling, tubing down the river in the summer, and enjoying nature in general.
